WHAT IS THE CPA?
Q: WHAT IS THE CPA?

"CPA" stands for Citizen's Police Academy.  It was formed because people are curious about what police officers REALLY DO!   The television media has capitalized upon this curiosity with shows such as "Cops," and "Real Stories of the Highway Patrol." Some police agencies have benefited from the curiosity that citizens have about the police. The creation of the Deer Park Citizens' Police Academy has allowed citizens to become more educated about their local police and get a taste of what police work is all about.  Citizens gain an insider's knowledge of the police agency, enabling them to make informed decisions on issues affecting the police and the community. The program also helps citizens and police officers receive insight into the views held by each other about policing.

  • *CITIZENS MUST GRADUATE FROM OUR CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY PROGRAM BEFORE THEY CAN JOIN THE CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION!

Q: TELL ME ABOUT THE CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY CLASS

Currently, our  CPA Program is only offered twice a year.  Classes start in February and August and consists of a 14 week course (one night a week) over topics ranging from interaction between class participants and officers and hands on training on SWAT, DWI procedures, self-defense, investigations, communications and many other topics. Past students have listened to audio recordings, watched pursuit videos, investigated mock crime scenes and had numerous questions answered. Classes are interactive and evolving as more citizens take the initiative to interact with their police department by joining the Citizen’s Police Academy.

The class concludes with an actual ride-along with a police officer on patrol.

Participants experience an abbreviated look at the training our officers receive in order to become certified Texas Peace Officers, and graduate with a greater respect for the job the officers do as they put their lives on the line to keep our community safe. The CPA has received rave reviews from the over 275 Citizens that have attended.
